Dragon fruit is a tropical fruit native to Mexico and Central America. It takes it's name from its bright red skin and green scales resembling those of a dragon. It comes in 3 different colors on the inside, white with black seeds, red with black seeds and yellow with black seeds. Although it is such a beautiful fruit with exotic looks, it is actually milder in flavor...
On the other hand, it is said to have many health benefits, and is packed with antioxidants, vitamins and minerals. So today I will be adding it to my smoothie mix for the nutrients and for the amazing color! You can make the same step with any fruit combo you like. Just make sure you chop them up a day earlier and freeze them. For a smoothie to be solid enough to be eaten as a smoothie bowl, your fruit must be frozen.
- 1 cup chopped dragon fruit (frozen)
- 1 cup chopped banana (frozen)
- 1/2 cup strawberries (frozen)
- 1 cup chopped mango (frozen)
- 1/4 cup coconut milk (or less)
- 1 tablespoon honey
- Kiwi slices
- Dragon fruit cubes
- Pistachio slices
*Use a strong blender for this or like in my case I used a food processor
*Drop in all your frozen fruit, milk and honey and blend until completely smooth.
*Plate in a bowl and garnish with whatever fruit you have on hand and your choice of nut for the crunch. It is cooling, delicious and nutritious and the best part is it takes no time to make.
