It is officially fall and pumpkin is everywhere. And to top that today is International Coffee Day and being the coffeeholic I am proud to be :) I am making the most delicious Pumpkin Spice Coffee to celebrate. Most coffee shops make this with the pumpkin spice mix and artificially flavored pumpkin syrup. But today I will be using real pumpkin puree made from fresh pumpkins.
There are many ways to make pumpkin puree but today I made it the easiest way of them all. I chopped the pumpkin into small pieces and put them in a small pan. Add a little bit of water in order to help the pumpkins cook, do not use a lot of water, the puree will be too watery and you'll lose a lot of the pumpkin flavor. Leave it to cook on a low simmer until tender. Use a blender and blend it into puree.
Of course, if you have canned puree it is easier and faster.
Ingredients:
- 3 tablespoons pumpkin puree
- 1-2 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/2 cup hot strong coffee
- 1 teaspoon pumpkin spice mix
- 1/2 - 1 cup full fat milk of choice
- Milk froth
- Whipped cream (optional)
Pumpkin Spice Mix:
- 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 3/4 teaspoon ground all spice
- 3/4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
*Mix the spices and keep them in an airtight jar.. you will only need a teaspoon of this mixture but you can use the rest for many other recipes.
*In your cup spoon the pumpkin puree, maple syrup, hot coffee and spice mix.
*Pour the hot milk on them and if you have any frothed milk add that to the top, if not just top it with whipped cream and enjoy.
*It is delicious and perfectly balanced and so autumny :)
